My 2023 Journey

Hello everyone, thanks for visiting my Website!

This year has been challenging, to say the least, well actually started Dec. 26, 2022, with a trip to an Urgent Care with a severe stomach ache, flu symptoms, and a very high fever, what a way to spend the day after Christmas right? I was prescribed Tamiflu, and it helped get my fever down.

Then Jan. 1, 2023 evening thought I was having a heart attack, my stomach was in terrible pain, and again very high fever this time I called 911 and got a 2,300 dollar ride to the Hospital, (my co-pay was 225), thank goodness for having great insurance.

So, I wasn’t having a heart attack, was instead diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. What a way to start the New Year! Was given medications for my stomach pain and immediately changed my diet, I could not digest a lot of foods, so looked up foods to eat for controlling my UC.

That resulted in a lot of positive changes in my life, for one, I lost almost 25 lbs. (was 195 down to 170 “my high school weight“) on my new eating habits, I have a smoothie for breakfast that I concoct myself, using frozen veggies is the way to go, use what you need and save for tomorrow, kale, spinach, green beans, and frozen blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, Açai berries, the possibilities are endless and tastes so good and nutritious.

So all this has led to more energy and better sleep, and I started exercising at home at first, small dumbbells, a Bosu ball, stretch bands, and some very light chair yoga videos.

That led to getting a gym membership, actually 3 gym FREE memberships via Silver Sneakers, I go to Planet Fitness 1/2 a mile away cuz they have lots of equipment and plenty of room for me to navigate my Rollator/Walker, also joined the YMCA, they have 4 locations within 8–10 miles, the one I like has a 6 lane swimming pool and a Jacuzzi! Aaand, joined Crunch Fitness, what I like there is they have a Hydro Massage chair that is really helpful for my back issues.

My whole outlook on life has changed, with my back issues I had really just given up for a few years and just sat on the couch watching streaming stuff and eating. So I guess to conclude my post, just wanna say that we can turn a “bad situation” into a good outcome. I am halfway through my 69th trip around the Sun, and feel better than I have in a long time!

I’m so sorry to hear if the rough start to the year, but it’s wonderful what that has led to.
